About
The Southside sits in the classic cocktail family. Fresh, sharp, and built around mint. At its simplest you can call it a gin mojito. Swap the rum for gin. Keep the mint, citrus, and sweetness. Shake, strain, and you have the idea.
The history has a few competing stories.
One version links it to Chicago in the early 1900s. The “South Side” of the city had rougher spirits during Prohibition, so bartenders used mint, sugar, and lemon to soften the taste. Gin made it cleaner and more aromatic.
