MARTHA MARTINI | MARTINI | DOWNTON DISTILLERY

Every great bar has a signature martini. This is ours.

Created to showcase Lady Martha's Gin at its finest, the Lady Martha Martini takes the classic serve and adds its own elegant twist. A dash of orange bitters lifts the citrus botanicals. While our house vermouth blend introduces layers of herbal freshness, gentle spice and subtle bitterness. The result is a martini with remarkable balance, silky texture and an elegant, lingering finish.

Our House Vermouth Blend.

To complement the botanical complexity of Lady Martha's Gin, we were introduced to this carefully balanced vermouth blend. It has become our preferred accompaniment for creating the perfect martini.

Together they deliver crisp freshness, aromatic herbs and delicate bitter spice, creating the perfect partner for Lady Martha's Gin.

The Recipe.

  • 60ml Lady Martha's Gin.
  • 10ml House Vermouth Blend.
  • 2 dashes Orange Bitters.
  • Orange twist

The Method.

  • Begin by chilling your martini glass thoroughly.
  • Add two dashes of orange bitters to the glass and gently swirl to lightly coat the inside before discarding any excess. This creates an aromatic layer that greets you with every sip.
  • Fill a mixing glass three quarters full with large, crystal clear ice made from filtered water. Ice is one of the most important ingredients in a martini. It controls dilution, temperature and texture, allowing the botanicals to gradually open while creating the silky mouthfeel that defines an exceptional serve.
  • Add the gin and house vermouth blend before stirring gently for around 20 seconds.
  • We always recommend stirring rather than shaking. Stirring carefully marries the ingredients together, preserving the gin's character while creating a smooth, velvety texture. Shaking introduces greater dilution and chills the drink further, which can mute the delicate aromas and flavours that make a premium martini so rewarding.
  • Finally, strain the martini into the prepared glass from a little height. Beyond adding a touch of theatre, this gentle pour lightly aerates the cocktail, softening the texture and allowing the aromas to bloom.
  • Finish by expressing a fresh orange twist over the surface before placing it elegantly into the drink.

The Result.

Bright citrus leads the palate before classic juniper, warming spice and the distinctive complexity of Wu Wei Zi unfold. The orange bitters and house vermouth blend bring every element together, creating a martini that is refined, beautifully balanced and unmistakably Lady Martha.
