History

Decanters began in ancient Rome, then evolved through Venetian glassmaking and the 18th century addition of stoppers. In many towns, households also brought their own bottles to shops to refill with wine or spirits, which cut waste and cost. Today decanters combine function, storage, and presentation with ease.

Why they are sustainable

Decanters make practical sense from a sustainability point of view, as you will always be refilling them. This reduces glass and cardboard waste. Invest in the liquid rather than the packaging, refill pouches make this effortless. You top up what you already own, whilst preventing another bottle from entering the recycling stream.

Please send your refills back to us once used. Ensure the cap is on and drop it into a postal box. As always, we will cover your shipping charge for sending back the refills.

• The most important thing to remember when it comes to cleaning your
  crystal decanter is to avoid anything that may leave scratches.
• Stick to soft cloths and kitchen roll.
• Never place your decanter in a dishwater as the detergent used in these tablets can dull the glass.
• Whether you use your decanter for wine or spirits, it can sometimes be tricky to remove stains from these drinks.
• Mix rock salt with half a cup of white wine vinegar.
• If these stains are persisting try a mixture of warm water, baking soda and rock salt.

• Remember to avoid anything that could leave a scratch.
• Kitchen roll is great as it can absorb the Liquid and will not leave any tiny bits of tissue.
• To be able to reach all parts of the inside of your crystal glass decanter you can wrap the end of a wooden spoon with kitchen roll.
• For the best results after a wipe leave the kitchen roll inside the decanter over night to soak up all excess water.

• We must be notified of damaged goods within 2 days of delivery.
• We will refund you using the method of payment used to make the purchase.
• Goods must be returned unopened, sealed and in the original packaging.
• Downton Distillery Ltd will refund accepted returns within 30 days of you notifying us.
• The postage of the return is the responsibility of the purchaser.
• Loss or damage during transit of goods being returned is the responsibility of the purchaser.

• Please note delivery will require a signature from an over 18.
• The small 50ml bottles are deemed as small parcels by Royal Mail.
• All deliveries are sent by signed post, whilst courier will be tracked.
• Deliveries will not be made to minors and delivery services will not complete delivery if they are unsure of the persons age.
• We are unable to leave a package (even in a ‘safe place’) without a signature.
• We offer a collection option from Regent Tailoring in Salisbury for
  Explorer's Gin only. This is shown when selecting your postage.
• Please show them your invoice to collect your bottle.
• For UK deliveries please allow 3 - 5 working days from payment.
• The distillery is not responsible for Royal Mail strikes or late deliveries by Royal Mail.
