We are inviting independent pubs across Wiltshire and the surrounding counties to help host a new series of conservation evenings centred around one of Britain’s most remarkable wildlife recovery stories. These events bring together people, place, and provenance through an evening of conversation, local spirits, and genuine community connection.
Each evening begins with a relaxed and engaging talk on the reintroduction and conservation of the Great Bustard. Delivered by those directly involved in the programme, guests hear first hand about the challenges of restoring one of Britain’s heaviest flying birds to the Wiltshire landscape, alongside the wider biodiversity work taking place across the downs.
Following the talk, guests are guided through a tasting of Great Bustard spirits from Downton Distillery. Every spirit is rooted in local provenance and inspired by the surrounding countryside. Botanicals, orchard fruit, and ingredients connected to the chalk landscape help create spirits that tell a story of the land itself.
These evenings consistently create a strong atmosphere within pubs. They encourage conversation between strangers, support local businesses, and attract customers looking for something more meaningful than a standard night out. People leave informed, entertained, and with a stronger connection to the landscape around them.
