The Jam Jar Martini is a playful twist on a classic gin cocktail, born in the early 2000s from the rise of “kitchen cocktails”. The idea that you can create great drinks with whatever’s in your cupboard.
Originally credited to a few inventive bartenders in London and New York, it’s made by shaking gin or vodka, citrus juice, and a spoonful of quality jam directly in a clean jam jar.
The jam sweetens and flavours the drink while celebrating seasonal fruits, making it perfect for summer garden parties or picnics.
Serve it straight into a martini glass or keep in the jar with a sprig of mint. You have a drink that’s equal parts rustic and chic. The beauty of this serve is its versatility, swap gin for vodka and you have a berry vodka smash; use rum with marmalade for a tropical breakfast punch; or replace citrus with prosecco for a sparkling jam spritz.
