Enzoni

The Enzoni cocktail is a modern twist on the classic Negroni, combining the bitterness of Campari with the refreshing taste of fresh grapes and the herbal notes of Great Bustard Gin.

It was created by Vincenzo Errico whilst working at the Match Bar in London in 2001. He started to use grapes pairing them with Campari, lemon, gin and sugar to create the Enzoni, a sour cocktail that would become one of contemporary cocktail culture’s earliest champions of bittersweet flavours.  Grapes provide a soft sweetness when paired with lemon juice, create a grapefruit-like flavour, which naturally complements Campari’s citrus notes.

Ease of Making: Easy

Glass Type: Rocks Glass

Taste: Citrus notes with light sweet bitterness, after all this is a Negroni

Original Recipe:

  • 5 green grapes
  • 30 ml Great Bustard Gin
  • 30 ml Campari
  • 20 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15 ml simple syrup (1:1 sugar to water ratio)
  • Ice cubes

Method:

  • In a cocktail shaker, add the green grapes and muddle them until they are thoroughly crushed.
  • Pour the gin, Campari, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup into the shaker with the muddled grapes.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake well until the mixture is well-chilled.
  • Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  • Garnish with either an orange or lemon twist or a few additional grapes if desired.

Enjoy your Enzoni cocktail!
