This is our first liqueur using hand picked green walnuts from the three beautiful walnut trees growing behind the distillery and a young tree in our small botanical garden. Walnuts have been used in spirits for many years, but the Italians are famous for their Nocino.
This Nocino infusion offers a deeply complex and aromatic flavor profile, balancing rich earthiness with warming spice and subtle sweetness. The bold bitterness of black walnuts is complemented by the roasted depth of coffee beans, creating a dark, almost chocolate-like richness.
Bright citrus notes from orange peel cut through the intensity, adding a refreshing contrast, while maple syrup provides a natural caramel-like sweetness that rounds out the bitterness. The addition of cardamom introduces a warm, slightly spicy and herbal undertone, enhancing the liqueur’s depth, while vanilla smooths the edges with its soft, creamy finish.
The result is a velvety, well-balanced spirit with layers of nutty bitterness, warm spice, and gentle sweetness.
- Bottle size 350ml @40% ABV.
- Macerated and bottled at Downton Distillery.
- Notes of walnut, nutmeg, coffee, maple.
- Contains nuts.
HOW TO ENJOY
- Perfect for sipping neat as an aperitif.
- Or mixing into sophisticated cocktails. It makes an excellent Espresso Martini or Chocolate Martini.
- Delicious served drizzled over vanilla ice cream.
- Pair with cheese after dinner.
